Predicate podcast?
Posted by admin 1 year ago
Simply put, we are awesome people who like to talk about random stuff. We're good at it. It has been suggested that a predicate podcast would in fact be sweet, and I must say that I agree.
I'd like to suggest a possible format: 30 minute long podcast (keeping it short keeps it manageable), divided into three segments. That ensures at least three different categories of things get talked about on a given episode, and keeps bitterpants and i from going off about cory doctorow for hours at a time.
Ideas for categories and topics include:
NERDERY
- Copyright law
- Web frameworks
- Things nobody realizes about making some kind of nerd thing
GAMING/SPORTS
- Diplomacy fights
- Current here I Stand tournament recaps
- Fantasy football
- Actual sports people who aren't total nerds play in the real world
HORRIFYING/AWESOME LINKS
- I think we all know how this one works.
STUMP THE PREDICAN
- Somebody from predicate with an area of expertise answers questions
Thoughts? Ideas?
Sweet
Love the idea. Scared (a bit) of the execution. We can't even get people - myself included - to post here. Can we really commit ourselves to a regular podcast?
wait...
REGULAR?
I think the key is to try it once and see if it's fun. Then we'll see how it goes.
oh.
ha. jumping ahead of myself, I see.
Activia won't help with this kind of regularity!
I was suggesting to eaton that we make it more like You Look Nice Today -- in which three guys basically sit around for 2 hours and ramble, then it gets edited together. It's not regular, either.
If we wanted to we could also give everyone involved veto power over any particular segment.
I'd gladly bring my opinions
I'd gladly bring my opinions on personal finance and alternative sexuality to the mic.
WIN
See, that's exactly the sort of thing that will make us AWESOME.
Is there a time that would work out well for anyone? Hmmmm.
pretty much the only time i
pretty much the only time i have these days is between 9pm-10pm EST...

I'm generally free in the evenings, though it's a bit unclear to me exactly how this would work.
Yeah, I'd be happy to play
Yeah, I'd be happy to play "stump the health nazi," but what would be the actual procedure? Can somebody just record and/or edit a Skype sort of conference call session, or what?
Later evenings, like bitter's suggested timeframe (9-10 p.m. Eastern) would work for me also.
I suggest...
about 1am on Saturday night if you want to get me at my most talkative.
Which, admittedly, no one probably would.
Talkative = drunk. 9-10 PM
Talkative = drunk.
9-10 PM Eastern works well for me. And on Thursdays during rugby season I might be drunk, which may or may not be a bonus.
Well, in so many words..
Yes.
By the way...
There is a service called freeconference.com where we can set up and schedule a group telephone call, for free as in beer. Well, okay, participants have to pay their own long-distance charges; you don't get a toll-free number to call in to. If someone (eaton?) Skyped into it and recorded it -- assuming that's possible? -- would that work?
I'll be happy to schedule the call, if someone gives me a date and time and if those who are interested reply to me with the appropriate email addresses to which an invitation should be sent.
Anyone else can also sign up with that website for free and do the same, of course.
